Dune: Awakening is an open world survival game set on Arrakis, the desert planet that sits at the center of one of science fiction’s best known sagas. It imagines an alternate course of events in which Paul Atreides was never born, leaving the fate of the Imperium unsettled and the desert stranger than ever. The player character is an agent of the Bene Gesserit, sent to the sands with a single charge: find out what happened to the Fremen, who have vanished without explanation. That search leads through the crowded streets of Arrakeen, across the wind carved flats of Hagga Basin, into hidden cave systems and eventually out to the trackless Deep Desert, with figures such as Duke Leto Atreides and Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen turning up along the way. Arrakis itself behaves like a character rather than a backdrop: sandworms hunt anything that makes noise, the midday sun punishes anyone caught in the open, and towering storms rewrite the landscape as they sweep across it.

Staying alive comes first. Shade, shelter and water govern the opening hours, and moisture has to be pulled from whatever the desert offers, including the bodies of fallen enemies, before it can be refined into something drinkable. Progression runs through the Schools of the Imperium, where training unlocks distinct styles of play: the raw firepower of the Trooper, the commanding Voice of the Bene Gesserit, the deceptive traps of the Mentat, or the patient blade work of the Swordmaster, whose slow strikes slip past personal shields. Crafting spans everything from small survival gadgets to ground vehicles and flyable ornithopters, while a Shigawire hook opens up cliffs and ruins that would otherwise stay out of reach. Bases are assembled piece by piece in Atreides, Harkonnen and other architectural styles, then fitted with workbenches and spice refineries and decorated to taste. Swearing allegiance to one of the great houses opens its own storyline and ladder of rank. The complete experience is playable solo, on a private server shared with friends, or on public worlds holding hundreds of players, with difficulty and rules adjustable in the smaller modes.
