Graveyard Keeper 2 is a darkly comic management and crafting game set in a grim medieval kingdom, and it follows on from the original Graveyard Keeper. This time the central character holds the post of Grand Inquisitor, which brings authority, heavy responsibilities and a long list of morally questionable opportunities. The realm is under threat from a spreading zombie plague, and the nearby Town has fallen into disrepair, with frightened residents and crumbling buildings. At the heart of the game is a simple but twisted idea: the dead are a resource. Corpses, crops, wildlife and whatever else the land offers can be turned into materials, labor and profit. The game is full of grotesque characters, absurd situations and black humor, and its story mixes horror with satire of greed and religious power. Running a cemetery, rebuilding a community and waging war against the undead all feed into one another as the Inquisitor works to save the kingdom while getting as much out of it as possible.

Much of the game revolves around building up and running a medieval graveyard. Players gather plants, animals and human remains, then use them to build unusual machines and workstations that turn raw materials into goods. Automation plays a much larger role than in the first game. Reanimated zombie workers can take over repetitive jobs, which lets production chains run with little supervision and grow into a profitable operation. In the Town, the Inquisitor takes on quests, helps residents repair their homes and finds ways to turn their troubles into income, while the undead laborers do the hard work in the background. Military command is the other major part of the game. Players raise an undead army, craft armor and weapons, train soldiers who are not very bright, and build towers and fortifications to hold off waves of zombies. Improving the graveyard, the Town and the army opens up new options over time. Overall, Graveyard Keeper 2 combines crafting, management, automation and strategic defense with a wickedly funny story.
