Warlord: Awaji Steam Pre-Installed
Warlord: Awaji is the second chapter in Darkmatter Games’ line of first-person strategy titles, casting the player as a decorated samurai commander who receives a direct mandate from the Emperor: seize an entire island and prop up an imperial order that is close to falling apart. The setting is fourteenth century medieval Japan, recreated with unusual care. The island itself is built from genuine elevation data of the real Awaji, and its landscape is dotted with dozens of temples and shrines modeled on structures that actually stand there. Every blade, suit of armor, building style and personal name draws on surviving texts, period artwork and archaeological evidence, assembled in consultation with scholars who specialize in samurai warfare. What makes the game distinct is its refusal to pull the camera back into a map screen. Grand campaign decisions and the sweat of the battlefield occupy the same viewpoint, so a commander plans, marches and fights without ever leaving the body of the warlord being played.

Command begins with the retinue. Warriors are recruited individually, each carrying a distinct name and accumulating experience through deeds in combat, and captured territory funds promotions and raises the ceiling on army size. Formations are arranged through a drag and drop interface that allows any mixture of infantry, archers and mounted troops, while superior weapons and armor can be handed to the most capable veterans to sharpen their edge in a melee. Away from the fighting, the army needs a home, and camps can be pitched almost anywhere in the open world: tents for sleep and recovery, provisions for the troops, screens and fencing to mark a perimeter, and sentries posted through the night hours. The whole encampment can be struck and moved, turning logistics into a strategic lever. Outside the walls the island stays in motion, with merchant convoys and hostile warbands traveling the roads while rival clans respond to each provocation. Shrines can be taken to strengthen spiritual standing, strongpoints broken to blunt enemy response, and warrior monks courted for curses and joint assaults. The result is a historically grounded conquest campaign fought from the saddle rather than the map table.
