Welcome to Elderfield Steam Pre-Installed
Welcome to Elderfield is a cozy horror role-playing game built around a simple contradiction: in this town, the strange is simply ordinary. The people are peculiar, ancient entities keep a quiet watch from the treeline, and the local news broadcasts grow more unhinged with every passing day. Nobody in Elderfield seems especially bothered by any of it. The town is rendered in hand-drawn art that draws heavily on horror manga, all inky linework and uneasy stillness, while a dark lofi soundtrack composed by Dated fills the quiet spaces with a low hum of dread. Newcomers who stumble into Elderfield tend to stay, whether because they never find a reason to go or because leaving stops being an option at all. The result is a life sim wrapped in creeping unease, where tending a garden and avoiding the things in the woods occupy roughly equal space in a normal afternoon, and daily routine becomes its own kind of quiet horror.

Life in Elderfield follows the familiar rhythms of a farming sim, bent into unfamiliar shapes. Players cultivate land and harvest crops, though the fields yield corn and pumpkins alongside teeth and eyeballs, and stray tentacles have to be cut back before they take hold. Otherworldly livestock need feeding and managing, and there is always the risk that something from the forest wanders in uninvited. Beyond the farm there is fishing, mining, foraging through the wilds, home and character customization, and a cast of odd neighbors to befriend, court, and even marry, with a fresh mystery surfacing most days. Difficulty is a deliberate choice. A relaxed cozy setting strips things back to harvesting and discovery, while harder settings hand the reins to the Old Gods. Combat is turn-based and genuinely strategic, asking players to spend gathered resources, stack buffs, and pick equipment carefully against Lovecraftian horrors that do not forgive sloppy preparation. Death is part of the loop: die, learn something, farm and forage to rebuild, then walk back in better equipped. It is a warm, deeply unsettling game about making a home somewhere that never quite wanted one.
