Aperture Steam Pre-Installed
Aperture is the opening inside a camera lens that controls how much light enters the camera and hits the image sensor. Think of it like the pupil of your eye — it widens in the dark to let in more light and narrows in bright light to reduce it. In photography, aperture is measured in f-stops such as f/1.8, f/2.8, f/5.6, and so on. A lower f-stop number means a wider aperture, allowing more light in, which is useful in low-light situations and creates a blurry background effect, often used in portraits. A higher f-stop number means a narrower aperture, letting in less light but keeping more of the image in focus, which is useful in landscapes.

Aperture also affects depth of field, which is how much of the image appears sharp from front to back. A wide aperture (low f-stop) gives shallow depth of field (only the subject is sharp, background is blurry), while a narrow aperture (high f-stop) gives deep depth of field (everything is sharp). Aperture works together with shutter speed and ISO in the exposure triangle, which controls the overall brightness and look of a photo. Mastering aperture helps photographers control both lighting and style in their images.
