Breed your animals and start families to expand your wildlife and fill your enclosures. But if that doesn’t suit you… you could just create animals instead! With DNA splicing at your finger tips,
you have the power to bind together over 300,000 different types of animal, creating monstrosities and oddities as you go! Ever wondered what a ChicKaka would look like? Now you can find out! I really do recommend this, and while there are some bugs (such as the robot animals still requiring the same needs as biological animals) the developers have already acknowledged this and are very active in the discussion hub. Don’t be fooled by the art style, this is not a game for kids. There are surprisingly a TON of moral choices to make that affect the look and progression of your zoo. I’ve only scratched the surface of what is offered in the 1.0 release, but suffice it to say, I’m hooked and look forward to the different things the developers may add to the future. Since the art style is seemingly simple, there are 10 options for every animal “style” For example. 10 kinds of rabbits, hares, etc, 10 styles of horses. donkeys, zebra, etc, 10 kinds of monkies, etc. and they are based on rarity. Every animal type has a breeding progression that is based on what skin the mother and father have, and with each successful offspring increases the chances for rarer breeds to pop up. The management system also has a wiiiiide variety of options that can lead you to growing food to supply ingredients for hotdogs, popcorn, etc you sell to visitors, or meat supplied from euthanized zoo animals to be fed to other zoo animals.
It can get pretty dark from the little bit that I saw (trying for a morally good zoo right now). The base game is chock full of things to do and discover, so the future looks bright for this zoo builder game! I’ve been following this game for what feels like years. Release has been amazing. The game is just incredible. The zoo genre of games has really been stagnant with few changes. LBAZ shakes the whole thing up and drops it on its head. In LBAZ, you get all the familiar components of zoo games, such as taking care of animals, designing the zoo, working the shops, and mastering your profits, but it’s also added in the idea of gene-splicing– meaning you can make SO many different animals! LBAZ also incorporated a morality meter, meaning you can be a good zoo (think farms, eco-friendly, and expensive) or a bad zoo (think meat processing plants, cheap everything, blackmarket animals). The devs are committed to updating the game with more and more features, this game is only going to get better. If you’re looking to add a new zoo game into your library, you really can’t go wrong with this one!!
