But have the lucky of kicking some aliens in his dates! A little jewel of a game. Seriously. Between the adorable low-poly graphics and blissfully nostalgic music, the atmosphere is uniquely charming. The combat is easy to pick up and feels great, but the small health bar will guarantee a good rush of adrenaline during the more intense battles. The buildup sequences before the bosses are masterful crescendos, the bosses themselves are appropriately climactic. And the secret-hunting will make you feel smart. Some may find the absence of a map frustrating, but the world is built around that limitation, and it works just fine in practice. Don’t let that deter you.
I recently finished an Umbrella-only run and got to experience the game all over again a second time and my enjoyment of it only increased. This game is so simple to understand and the combat is SO fun, the umbrella run especially made it challenging enough that I had to use every resource intelligently. The characters are rich and fun, the worlds are distinct, and the music is amazing. I was surprised to see many people compare it to Zelda as I had the exact same thoughts, it even reminded me of Hollow Knight a little bit. I just wish this game was longer I couldn’t get enough of it. Very high on my recommendation list. Very polished in every aspect of a video game and most importantly, the world is fun to explore. A great mix of puzzles to solve in between engaging combat that isn’t overly easy. A large reason the world is so fun to explore is how much you can interact with it, either via secret areas cleverly hidden by the isometric perspective or the huge amount of upgrades and end-game content that let’s you impact the story. If you’re looking for a very above average adventure game, this is it.
The game atmosphere’s is very nice, and the way the game draws you into its world reminds me a lot of Ori and the Blind Forest. It’s a simple yet beautiful game, mixing puzzles and fighting. Let’s be honest, it’s not the best at either of those, (puzzles and bosses for example are very simple), and the plot is not mind blowing either. But the game is more than the sum of its parts. While each element taken individually might mindblowing, everything is done solidly and ties with other elements to deliver a truly touching and fantastic experience. A rather short one, I took 14h to complete a playthrough and the current total is accounting for doing all achievements (which will usually require a second playthrough, if you’re so inclined). All in all, for 20€, if you’re looking for a simple, relaxing yet touching game, this is the game for you. I’d say that if you enjoyed Ori and the Blind Forest’s atmosphere, this game (even if it’s not a platformer) should be especially of interest to you
