About The Game
Superliminal is a first-person puzzle game based on forced perspective and optical illusions. Puzzles in this game give you a sense of the unexpected. Players need to change their perspective and think outside the box to wake up from the dream. As you fall asleep with the TV on at 3AM, you remember catching a glimpse of the commercial for Dr. Pierce’s Somnasculpt dream therapy program. By the time you open your eyes, you’re already dreaming – beginning the first stages of this experimental program. Explore a dream world where everything is exactly as it seems. Tread carefully as the world slowly unravels around you and subverts your expectations. What you see isn’t always precisely what you get. MAN VS MACHINE In this fully-voiced adventure, Dr Glenn Pierce is doing his questionable best to guide you home and out of the dreamscape. His artificial intelligence assistant, however, is having trouble understanding exactly how you’re here at all, and has other plans for you.
We’ve added an extensive developer commentary throughout the game, so you can learn the secrets and history behind the game’s development. The overwhelming response from the speedrunning community to Superliminal inspired us to add a new Challenge Mode, which will score you per-level on metrics such as time to finish, grabs, and jumps. Pick up an object and back up so that it looks like it’s covering half of a wall, then drop it at the right spot and the object will actually be larger now, just like it looked from afar. Move around so certain shapes meld together and you’ll create another object out of what was previously 2D drawings. The game also uses this perspective mechanic to play plenty of tricks on you as well, which I enjoyed. You can tell the overall gameplay from a few screenshots or a video clip, so that should let you know whether you’re interested in playing it. I will say that I’m not sure its full price is worth the playtime, so probably wait for a sale, though there are some add-on modes that might intrigue you. (They did not intrigue me, however, so I’ve only played the main story and that’s it.
It took me about 4.3 hours to finish this game so it is not very long, but there are lots of achievments to collect and in that kind of game it is going to be real fun to collect all of them. The story is good enough, with a really nice twist in the end, but honestly – it is not a main dish here. Puzzles are the real deal here – they are intuitive but not very easy and even when one puzzle stopped me for longer I was never stuck. This is the first time I have played a game a felt like leaving a review immediately after completion. Genuinely one of the best games I have played in my life. It’s incredibly unique and best to go in blind cause knowing anything about the gameplay takes away from this one of a kind experience. Highly recommend.
