The gameplay is simple- when the icon reaches the target you will have to do what the target says. Once the target gets hit, you will get a judgment. The judgment will determine how good or how bad you were at hitting the target. So you will get options between Great, Cool, Miss, and Good. Remember that you will get the judgment depending on your timing. So if you time it perfectly you will get the Great! Comment whereas if you can slightly hit it then you will be rewarded a Cool or Good. However, if you MISS then the Groove gauge on top will get depleted. However, if you score any of the other three judgments, then you will be able to fill it up. Groove Coaster 3EX: Dream Party, Groove Coaster 4: Starlight Road, and Groove Coaster: Wai Wai Party got released in 2017, 2018, and 2019 respectively. Various changes were made in these versions with a new level system, a re-arranged difficulty system, and more.
Personally this feels more like the Arcade version than the Nintendo Switch version. It’s a shame that this game seems to have been abandoned, as I would certainly pay for more tracks and multiplayer that the switch version already has. If they were in stock I’d be tempted to get the groove coaster controllers also. If you don’t mind missing out on some songs, multiplayer mode, and would rather get it cheaper, go for this version. The cheapest version is of course the mobile version as it’s free, but if you want to use a controller I’m not sure if the app supports them. Since I got it on the current Halloween sale for a decent price with the Undertale dlc, I’m satisfied with it.
