Esse Proxy is a slick, stylish and brutal, 3D Cyberpunk Shooter. Kill or die, learn and repeat before you unveil the secrets of Esse Proxy. You’re a little soul, carrying a corpse, not entitled to be just an illusion. Allow me to introduce yourself, no more than just some entropy. I’m still here, keep looking, will you?. Esse Proxy has a lot to offer, in very little time. This game sucks you in like a distant black hole, slowly divulging a star until there’s nothing left. You’re being pulled towards this gory, visceral top-down twin-stick shooter, set in a dystopian cyberpunk world. I’m a huge fan of strategy and turn-based games, and to be fair, you might be wondering why I am mentioning this. Well, Esse Proxy accomplishes a feeling that great turn based games do, that feeling that goes along the lines of “I NEED TO PLAY ONE MORE TURN! I NEED IT!” which is incredible since it doesn’t have turns, It doesn’t even have a pause button, so how does it manage it? It´s a mix, I think. The art of the game is stylish, the action is super fluid and dynamic, the music is astonishing and over the top, the consequences of each shot being fired are both thrilling and rewarding, every time you land one and see a splattering head or a piece of body dismembering. There is a weird sense of joy in every reload, I don’t mind dying at all, I just want to go again; I don’t even consider playing slower more carefully. No, that´s for losers. I just go in feeling like a badass, guns blazing, trying to look super cool. If I die, so be it, the next try I might get it.
Every kill shot triggers a slight slow-motion effect, allowing you to reposition your mouse and line up for the next killing shot, while you’re weaving your way with surgical precision through the well-designed levels. This whole game is designed to get you into a literal gameplay loop. You’re bobbing your head on the beats of the magnificent music, you’re learning the levels and layouts, you’re dying an awful lot, but it’s all part of the plan. Normally, the idea of game design is that you create a gameplay loop which the players aren’t consciously aware of. These 2 game devs have created a gameplay loop that is bright as day. The whole gameplay is literally a gameplay loop, with constant dying and restarting, being sucked into the world, honing your aiming skills, and then rinse and repeat. And being aware of a gameplay loop has never been this enjoyable. The graphics have its moments where it is really cool (for example I love the blood, the smoke from the barrel of the gun, the stealth characters jacket flowing as you move forward.
This game is similar to Hotline Miami but not quite as good. The game is alright. Im currently on the Helicopter boss and it sucks. Long and repetitive….but it also causes major FPS dips. The helicopter boss drops my frames to 20 and lower at points, causing my death as the game freezes for a second, and you’re dead because you can’t move / dodge. So the helicopter boss gets old quick because the fight is long, and you’re also fighting waves of enemies, and one enemy drops the weapon you use to kill the boss and it only has one shot before youre out of ammo. So if you miss, you have to wait another round of being shot at by the boss, and then killing the enemies just to get the weapon again. LON AND TEDIOUS. So this boss strikes me as dull, but certain parts of the game also feel dull in certain areas and points. But it’s not awful by any means. If you’re a fan of Hotline or Redeemer, youll like this a lot.
