About The Game
Mari & Bayu: The Road Home is a cooperative 2D ant-venture. Help Mari to get back home and finding her brother Tom, after going astray in the world. Experience the journey of how Bayu, her magical friend, develops the strength in finding all of his kidnapped family, while helping Mari to gain confidence in getting back home. Tiny world, big adventure – Solve puzzles, surf the wind on feathers, ride grasshoppers, interact with fellow insects and use your environment to your advantage by using Bayu’s wind powers. A solo or two player cooperative experience – You can either play as both Mari and Bayu when playing solo or choose between Mari and Bayu when playing in cooperative mode. Enjoy 2 different gameplay styles, each having their own perks.
Discover a rich and unique environment – Experience the world through the perspective of an ant. Within every human footstep are great adventures and dangers for small insects to overcome. From the deep dark puddles, fly swatters and scorching piles of garbage to monsters that are desperate to get rid of you. Discover a total of 12 different and unique settings. Before anything, I wanna point out that the devs of this game have truly managed to put together all aspects of development into one cohesive journey. Everything that happens throughout the game seems to be carefully threaded into story, art, level design, music and sound design. Nothing seems to have been left to coincidence, and you’ll sometimes forget that you’re playing a game entirely.
Each level in Mari and Bayu introduces at least one new concept that the player will have to adapt to. In each level you’ll also meet unique characters with their own story and personal traits, always neatly interwoven with the rest of the overarching story (and often with the game’s mechanics). The art of this game speaks for itself. It is truly expressive, and each asset seems to be tailored to the particular world you’re in! That, in combination with a beautiful story, music and sound design, builds a strong foundation for the emotional state that Mari and Bayu find themselves in particular situations.
