However, where the game really shines is it’s attention to detail both in the environments and the Mobile Suits themselves. Every suit has unique abilities, and are split up into three types (ranged, melee, balanced) that all feel different and fun to play. The most important aspect however, is that all the Mobile Suits are authentic albeit in SD fashion. GMs utilize ball cannons, Zaku’s can whip out their Heat Hawk, ETC. The animation is also true to the series, it will never get old watching the GM and RX78 use their guard mode as the animation looks straight out of the OG 1970’s series. Environments are incredibly detailed. You can see sand rise up when your suit stomps down when doing the introductory mission of Operation Odessa. Even the original OG series’ soundtrack plays! But it makes the entire game feel genuine and like the devs really cared about the franchise and what they were making. Combat is pretty straightforward, combos, ranged weaponry, and neat specials that are unique to each Mobile Suit. Think a less complex version of Devil May Cry’s combat system. Upgrade system is basic, but forces you to be thoughtful of what you upgrade and how. Upgrading a Mobile Suit you love and ignoring others may be detrimental later on, and trying to spend Capital (the games upgrade points) on too many suits at once limits your ability to develop powerful Suits for difficult missions. While basic in principle, you can’t treat this like a brainless upgrade tree. You have to be strategic.
