Trifox is a 3D platformer with the aim to bring back our nostalgia of similar games. Think Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet & Clank, Jak and Daxter, and so on. The cartoony graphic style is incredibly well chosen in combination with its silly humour and overall atmosphere. The game is incredibly immersive, and well-suited for ages 10 and up. There is no spoken dialogue, making the game rely on visual storytelling instead, and it accomplishes this task with flying stars! If you’re looking for a game that brings back your twin stick platformer nostalgia, this is it! Integrity is important to me. I received a free pre-release key for this product as a content creator, with no other offer or form of compensation. As someone who grew up with Ratchet & Clank, this game caught my interest, and I can genuinely recommend this game! Trifox is a lovely 3D platformer that feels like a mix between Crash Bandicoot (especially the level selection screens) and Ratchet & Clank. You can choose between 3 character types (Warrior, Mage, Technician) but can buy skills from each skill tree, so you aren’t locked at all to the class you choose and can build a nice combo between the characters’ abilities. The class doesn’t have an impact on your health/defense or attack.

I did go for the technician as it felt like something special that you don’t see in other games. I also loved that I could plant some turrets on the ground and let them do the work for me. It is a bit more of a lazy playstyle I guess, but I loved it! I only played a bit with the skills from the other classes for some of the achievements but preferred the technician skills by a mile. It might take a little bit of time to get used to the movement in Trifox. It felt a bit like the character is heavy, not sure how to explain it well but in some platformers, the character feels as light as a feather and in others, it feels like the character is heavy. In this one, it feels like the character is heavy, maybe even a tiny bit sluggish/clunky. Nothing too bad and you can get used to it very quickly, it just took me a little bit of time. Another small thing that I mostly noticed by playing through levels multiple times, is that I wish you could skip cutscenes. Some I had seen already multiple times and didn’t want to watch again. Gladly they are short so it doesn’t take too much time.
