Survive as fairies and familiar faces storm into the Scarlet Devil Mansion Library to steal Patchouli’s most precious belongings! Upgrade! Use a deep and unique system to upgrade Patchouli’s spell cards. Go exponential by attaching modifiers that add ricochets, poison, piercing, extra projectiles or even additional attacks! But make sure you balance these against Patchouli’s waning stamin Despite appearances, closer to bullet hell than the more modern bullet heaven, especially as you raise the difficulty. No meta upgrades (at time of writing), bullet dodging skill required, actual bosses. However, worth trying even if you aren’t super keen on bullet hell, particularly due to the presence of an upgrade grid on which you tactically place upgrade tiles to build your arsenal for the current run. Visuals are well done and easy to parse, though hitboxes occasionally feel a bit big. Please note that your starting spell selection is tied to what day of the week it is, for Touhou lore reasons, but you can still get the other spells when leveling up during a run.
It’s Touhou, but in the new Rouguelite 10-20 minute “level up/build” genre that keep showing up after Vampire Survivors’ surprise success. It’s Touhou, but it is also Vampire Survivors, Boneraisers, 20 Minutes Till Dawn, Her Name was Fire, and so many more recent games that have come out in the last year. This is perhaps one of the few games in the genre that does not include “meta-progress” un-lockables, so progression is truly based on player improving skills and pattern recognition. Lunatic mode is actually quite the challenge, in other words. The graphics are well-polished, and the music fits the Touhou aesthetic. The only complaint is that the price tag is perhaps a tad steep for what’s currently available; but I am also well versed in the fact that Touhou fan-games typically cost a little bit more than what would typically be expected. I supposed it could considered part of the “Touhou tax”, as mainline Touhou games production slow ever so more, yearly.
Touhou Library Survivors Direct Play:
Vampire Survivor + bullet hell is as good as it sounds(if it doesn’t sound good to you then don’t even bother lol), and the hexagon upgrade grid does offer a bit of depth. However, the game currently have very limited content. Aside from the starting spell cards(weapons in Vampire survivors), there are only 3 triggers, so the build you can actually make is very limited. Moreover, the bosses only have 1 or 2 attack pattern, and there is only one map in the game, so once you have played through the hardest difficulty, there is little reason to go for another run.
