HAITENAI RPG is a classic RPG developed by Yellow Gem and published by OTAKU Plan. The amnesiac protagonist awakens in the world of Dehaina,a land where all nature is supported by the power of mysterious “Orbs”. Not all is well, however, as a demonic invasion threatens the balance and the Orbs’ power is fading away. The destined youth must take up the mantle of the legendary hero and defeat the evils that threaten this peaceful land! In a world where none of the female characters wear underpants, one man must use his wits and his weapon and his… other weapon to save the world from the forces of doom. In all seriousness, adult stuff aside I’m actually impressed by this game’s classic rpg feel. The pixel art is lovely. The music is listenable. The whole thing has a feel like it’s not another slapdash RPG Maker affair. There are multiple weapon types. A fair bit of grinding. And also THAT grinding. You could do much worse. If you’re looking for a game where the sexy fun times better serve the experience as a whole, I more whole-heartedly recommend Princess and Conquest.
Story-wise it was about what I expected, with some fun twists and turns along the way and a cool cast of characters to see it through with. The fun and varied cast give it that ever-so-cosy feeling of a ragtag band of weird people going on an adventure, and there weren’t really any main members I disliked. Seeing the technological and life-style contrast between characters like Ray and Laeticia gave way to many interesting or funny conversations. I did feel like at times the dialogue and cutscenes got a little too dense for my liking, and had me itching to get the ball rolling again. I mentioned at the start I had a lot of small minor gripes. To list a handful, I found it annoyingly inconsistent how on one specific item menu you could press right/left to scroll up or down in x10’s, but most of the time you could only scroll up and down slowly, which became a very painstaking process when you get deep into item creation and are juggling endless amounts of equipment.

The filter system as a result could’ve also done with some work, as sorting by equipment to find specific factors you’d made or even just alphabetically was not an option. The game is also not optimized, with me running this on a 3060Ti amongst similar hardware and the game would still frequently drop below 60fps towards the 30-40 region in specific areas, generally in some towns and a couple of dungeons/field areas. Private actions are also back which I love I could go on, but as much as these little things added up, I enjoyed the game enough to ultimately not let them detract from the overall experience. Divine Force has a lot of attention to detail and extra bells and whistles to display stuff nicely, it’s just that the game is also missing a lot of opportunities there as well. I feel like your enjoyment on the game might be determined on how able you are to look past these minor annoyances.
