Their city was flooded when the Dirty Paws unleashed a fog like substance they call “The Gloom”, which submerged land for miles around, cutting them off from the outside world. Sigrid longs to explore and travel outside the realms of the fog, but it is a constant struggle just to keep the gloom at bay, only the Lighthouse beam charged with sparks can dissipate the fog, but it soon emerges again. One day, the Dirty Paws appear once more and threaten their very existence with a tidal wave of gloom that engulfs the inhabitants. Rescue the villagers, destroy the fog, and uncover information regarding your mother and The Dirty Paws, in this heartwarming, ecological, platforming narrative adventure There is nothing worse than lag or difficult controls whilst platforming, but Wavetale felt fluid, smooth and fun. Sometimes, the transition between surfing the waves to leaping out of the water and immediately starting platforming was awesome. The grapple function is excellent at wrenching you out of the sea, straight into the platforming sections, and the layout of the buildings are cleverly designed so that you can climb them quickly, or swing, glide, or leap between sections and feel great doing it.

There are also numerous quests which can be carried out, but they felt a little forced and not very interesting. They never managed to create any alternative stories to the main narrative, and I never felt these fringe characters were developed enough for me to care whether I managed to find someone’s engagement ring or lost dog. They basically acted as vehicles to reward you with tokens for purchasing outfits and hair colorings. I did manage to collect everything on offer but I was never compensated with an achievement or anything other than different looks for your character, so I wouldn’t bother unless that interests you. The game took me around five hours to complete, but this could be done in less time if you ignore the quests or Asta’s challenges.
