Awakening to find herself sprawled on a floor of hard steel, the first thing that greets Kohaku’s eyes is a strange talking sword named ExeBreaker. Unsure of where she is or what’s going on, she agrees to this sardonic sword’s proposal to join forces, and together they journey deep into the heart of a transformed Cogen City—once Kohaku’s home, now a collapsing ruin. Both mystery and mayhem await her, but with the power of ExeBreaker’s Ouroboros System on her side, nothing will stop her from discovering the truth of what happened to her beloved home.
The game is also uses the “rewind” function to open invisible platforms and rewind to a previous state before you died. The game doesn’t have button remapping, and certain mechanics like the rewind, dodging, and wall jumping takes some time to get used to with the slippery-ish movements. It doesn’t feel like something you’d pull off 2-3 times in your first playthrough. But nevertheless, the game delivers an awesome feel of satisfaction of taking down enemies and progressing through the levels. the concept of platforming and taking down enemies with a melee sword is always welcoming to the genre and this game is promising enough to try it out. Seems like we are seeing the beginning of a new franchise, just like Gunvolt went back then. Cool mechanics, funny dialogues, a good action-paced OST, “what the heck is going on here” story, a challenging hard mode after the main campaign, a beautiful art idle animation, and some good tech references/existential questioning things. So far, so good.
COGEN Sword of Rewind Direct Play:
This is pretty fun, some of the maneuvers took some getting used to, but the game is pretty forgiving. There’s speedrun times for each level, challenges/achievements you can do, and secrets. So each level has a lot of re-playability if that’s your thing. It does feel really awesome when everything works out and you’re dodging everything perfectly! Wonderful game! It plays very similar to Megaman Zero. In this game when you die, you have the ability to rewind time, which allows you to reverse your actions upon dying, you can also use it for other reasons. Keep noted however, theres no health bar and all it takes 1 hit to kill you. Plus, you have a bar thats used when activating time reverse, if its depleted and you die, then its over and you will be spawned at the checkpoint. Challenging combat, tough platforming, you will die alot in this game. Worth getting it.
