Infected by a zombie bite, Anling’s days are numbered. She must now fight to survive, not for herself but her young son, Cody. Ensure Cody’s survival in a zombie infested world by protecting him and teaching him valuable skills, at any cost. In this emotional survival game take control of Anling whose goal is to make sure her son Cody is safe and can live on after she turns. Limited resources must be managed in order to slow down Anling’s infection while also making sure both Anling and Cody do not starve from hunger or thirst. Anling must also teach her son essential survival skills such as cooking, crafting and combat before hers begin to fade. She might find that in certain situations she will start depending on him. A perfect balance of managing your days looking for resources and increasing Cody’s skill set will be needed in order to survive the long journey.
LIKE MOTHER, LIKE SON Cody will learn from the actions his mother, from combat to cooking. Make sure he knows the basics of survival before it is too late. Always be on the lookout for materials. You never know what is valuable to a trader, or what useful item you might be able to craft. Anling’s infection is ever looming. Manage your days and make the most of the time you have left. You will need to keep pushing on, because time doesn’t wait for you. Do not lose sight of what you are fighting for. Enjoy the small moments… Undying shows a ton of promise, and is frankly a great adventure as it is. As a survival game, I appreciated that I never completely felt self sufficient, which I think is a trap that most games fall into once you get your engine running well enough. In Undying; you’re constantly pushing out into the world to juggle what precious little you have, leaving the entire experience tense.
UNDYING Pre-Installed:
Building an XP/ skill system that is entirely based on Cody means that while it would almost certainly be quicker to just ‘do it yourself’; you lose out on valuable XP if you don’t at least get Cody involved. With new purchased talents, Cody eventually starts becoming a help instead of a hindrance, which paces really well with your own character slowly becoming weaker and weaker. If Cody gets left at home, you have an easier time of the ‘game’, but because all of the XP and skill bonuses are with Cody, you essentially lose a part of the ‘game’ by choosing to go it alone. Melee combat, movement, and resource gathering all feel well balanced and thought out. The simple act of having to grab your son’s hand to ensure he keeps moving when zombies nip at his heels is a surprisingly gentle great touch to establishing a connection between your kid and you. Fighting single zombies is generally easy as their movements are predictable and straightforward, but once you’re forced to juggle multiple hostiles; the game does a great job of evoking that sense of ‘GTFO’ lest you be stun-locked to death.
