Komorebi is a fully voice acted dystopic story taking place in 2041. Set against the backdrop of social revolt, you move to Toronto to start a brand new chapter in your life. Make friends, party, and form bonds and romances that will last a lifetime! While pages turn in your life however, they also turn in the world. As your morals clash with those in power, you and your group may walk an irreversible path in the name of equality and a brighter future. First off, I have to say that the characters were the heart of this game. They’re so lovable and well-written, each with their own personalities and struggles. The characters and voice acting – spot on! They really bring life to the story, and Legoshi’s VA stood out to me, but hey, that might just be my bias. I wanted to romance them all! I love visual novels, if ya know me, you know this. However to be blunt, I did find myself a bit disappointed with the protagonist, Delta. They felt a bit bland, and I couldn’t really connect with them. I also felt that some characters suffered from the “tragic backstory” syndrome, and well that’s just to be expected here.
Now, let’s talk about the narrative structure. The Fragment Map system was a bit confusing at first, and I found it challenging to keep track of the story. But as I got used to it, I enjoyed uncovering the characters’ stories and the events leading up to the big culminating moments. The pacing kept me engaged, and the heart-to-heart moments were my favorite. Now, the gameplay and choices. While the story is engaging, I expected more meaningful choices and multiple endings. The Fragment Map system was interesting, but it made the narrative feel disjointed As for the Komorebi phenomenon, I expected it to play a more central role, but it’s more of a background element. Instead, the game explores the societal impact of Komorebi, which was interesting but not what I initially anticipated. The Culmination Fragments, though, were intense and had me on the edge of my seat.
Komorebi Pre-Installed:
I couldn’t stop clicking to see what happened next! They truly brought the story together and left a lasting impression. The art and voice acting were excellent, but I did miss having more choices that actually made a difference in the narrative. And the limited in-game options are passable but left me ultimately wanting more. All in all, despite its flaws, Komorebi had me hooked for the 20ish hours I spent in its world. The characters, their interactions, and the gripping narrative made it a memorable experience. I’ll definitely miss this unique world and the connections I’ve I made along the way but it doesn’t exactly grip me with a passion to exonorate the title.
