Play alone, play with friends! Frenemies. We mean frenemies. There are no friends in the post-apocalyptic, living dead-infested wasteland. So you might want to take your club, hit those courses, collect bottlecaps (what other currency did you expect? rupees?), and drive your golf cart through crowds of zombies for fun and profit. OR! Or you can invite up to 3 more people to a hilarious hot-seat golfing duel, treuel, or even quadruel, where survival is optional, but fun is unavoidable. Swing easy and carry a big club There is only so far your collection of clubs and balls gonna get you. Luckily, or not so, that weird guy has also survived and he has been tinkering on all sorts of things. Exploding and homing balls, sniper clubs™, drones, movement detectors and other wacky stuff. Too bad the guy accepts only bottle-caps as legal tender, but you are bound to find some – this is a wasteland afterall.
Bring your A-game Up till now you had to deal with sand traps, tall grass, pools of water and that bloody wind, but times have changed and repeating a shot may be the least of your worries. Keep your head in the game and the dead… well dead – there is a record to set. Even better if you manage to grab some loot along the course. Some of these skills are well thought out, like +25% stealth or faster reload speed, however others are redundant and placed twice (two HP upgrades, for example) and some feel like options that should have been implemented in the game from the beginning to make gameplay feel better, mostly revolving (mind the pun) around combat mechanics, particularly aiming/shooting, which leads me to the most glaring flaws of Blood West, the combat mechanics.
Golf VS Zombies Pre-Installed:
This works for chapter one, but as you get to the later maps, enemies get stronger and need two or three headshots to kill them, which with these wack combat mechanics makes the game incredibly frustrating. There are other ammo types as well which add a nice variety such as bonus damage with silver and gold bullets, but some of this feels like the talent system before–Your firearm should be strong enough initially that if you put 4-6 rounds of your .45 ammo through your revolver in the body of your average enemy it would lie down. The drag it takes to raise his revolver or even his sawed-off shotgun takes up almost all the slow-down time… Not that this really matters, because aiming down the sights still has a change to miss, and just like the melee combat above, if you’re not getting the bonus damage from headshots, you are going to get rushed down and thrashed.
