Q.U.B.E. is one of the few franchises that I consider a worthy successor to Portal. Clear, logical puzzles that depend on thinking, not twitchy trigger fingers. It’s a definite must-buy for puzzle fans. I’ve been a QUBE “super fan” since the game came out in 2012. The original game will probably always be my favorite; the minimal aesthetic and atmosphere plus simple gameplay made a big impact on me.

I’ve always said that the devs behind the game were at their best when they focused on atmosphere and puzzles. As much as I’d like a picture-perfect remaster of the original game, I understand that nostalgia can sometimes blind us to the opportunity for improvement in a game. Nothing can take the original game away, but there’s always room for new experiences. With that in mind, I say confidently that this is *the* definitive Q.U.B.E. game and I’d recommend it to anyone looking to try the series for the first time as well as returning players. The revamped physics are much more consistent, making motion-based puzzles less painful. The new area design does a much better job of “selling” the environmental storytelling to the player. The collectibles and bonus Sector offer hours more replayability than the original. Lastly, the dev commentary is a real treat and helps to explain much of the design process behind the Director’s Cut.
