Leaving behind the sins that hold you captive to escape with only your soul. to escape with only your soul! Gameplay Soul Device is a 2D platformer shooter with features of the roguelike genre. On your way you will encounter various items that will strengthen you, equipment that will give you new abilities, and several weapons that will be responsible for your attacks. There is only one goal in this game. To pick up a gun, defeat all the enemies that stand in your way and escape at the end of it! Tons of enemies and bullets will be aimed at you. You need to dodge, block, and shoot to defeat them all and move on. Before you start your escape, you can customize your soul device’s abilities with 6 different soul devices and 12 special glyphs to get you started! You can have stronger combat abilities from the start, a stronger body, or more agile legs, depending on your choices. All of this can be earned in your challenges.
Enhance yourself with over 50 different items, gain multiple abilities with over 30 different pieces of equipment, and attack your enemies with over 40 different weapons! These will make you make you run faster, jump higher, move in new ways, block enemy attacks in more ways, and become more powerful. Your Soul Device will change depending on which power-ups you get! Tons of different types of enemies will target you in different types of labs! Powerful bosses will frustrate you! You may choose to retrace your steps if you want to be more prepared to deal with the enemies ahead. But keep in mind. If you go back the way you came, the collapsing space will attack you. Don’t give up, challenge, choose, and move on! While the game becomes more challenging once you activate this mechanic, it isn’t due to enemies simply statchecking your ass, but due to adding new movesets to bosses, or new enemy and stage variants.

However, the game also provides you with new toys to play with, such as a new powerup system or mechanics that increase the quality of a run. While not every run will be god tier, you’ll be hard pressed to find a run that can’t be won with pure skill alone. if I liked the feel of the combat a bit better, this would have become one of my new favourites in the roguelite genre, but despite that, the gameplay loop and content still makes it worth playing for me. It is a difficult game, and definitely take a few good hours to learn how to dodge the attacks from bosses (and even longer for the basic enemies). The variation of builds you can make, truely make each run different because of the skulls you use. Each skull plays differently, whether it’s the abilities, the movement, or speed of attacks.
