KARNAL is a short atmospheric experience inspired by classic shooters from the 90’s, with a modern twist. You assume the role of an anonymous journalist, who finds himself in a scenario blurring the lines between nightmare and reality. UNREAL ENGINE 5 LUMEN – This game was made using Unreal Engine 5, and uses Lumen for realistic global illumination & reflections. UNFORGIVING ENEMY COUNTS – You must take advantage of your weapons, environments, and movement speed to defeat your enemies. SECRETS & LOST TAPES – There are plenty of Easter Eggs for you to find, alongside the “Lost Tapes” side content. ARENA MODE – Save up money to purchase weapons and supplies, then battle endless waves of enemies in your arena of choice. I may have beaten the game in 20 minuets or i just suck with the controls as now i’m stuck in a gladiator arena with enemy’s spawning until death like the monster coming for ya in ski free.
90 degree corridor corners with a limited fov feels bogus, so is not being able to rebind key inputs. In the 90s before wasd i made my own weird setup that I prefer. Great visuals and atmosphere. This game is surprisingly polished and bug-free for what is obviously a personal project. There is replay value in the arena and also if you missed the tapes on the first pass. If you only care about shooting things, it has that too in the arena mode. Only thing i could really complain about is the fact you cant change the key-binds and and cant change the mouse setting to y-axis. The music and timing, great. The gunplay, great. Level design, great. Enemies are easy to distinguish and have good amount of variation for a first episode. I just finished on hard mode and the whole trip felt difficult but fair.
KARNAL Pre-Installed:
Each character is unique, with their own story, and frightening in different ways. This works well especially if you’re on harder difficulty where bullets are really limited. However, the knife does deal less damage when compared to previous game. The graphics of the surrounding environment is also one of the highlights of the game. Just as something unique can still be a load of old arse, this is derivative and yet it is so slickly done that its inspirations pale by comparison. The game offers incredibly snappy 3rd person melee and ranged combat, but also has very decent options for a stealthy approach.
