The game’s core is pretty simple; you cook meat, that’s it. But, hidden beneath the pretense of simplicity lies extraordinary attention to detail that has made me fall in love with the game. For example, Yakiniku Simulation provides a selection of premium cuts to satisfy your need for meats. Aside from the varied selection of cuts, it also lets you have total control of the grill heat level. That means, if you ever feel like the beef is cooking too long, crank the heat up, and you’re good to go. However, each meat has differing cooking times, so you’d have to keep a close eye on every slice you put on the grill. One more thing, if you’re aiming for a perfect score, you need to ensure each side of the meat is fully cooked – again, fantastic attention to detail; mad props to the dev team. The game features a plethora amount of modes to play around with, ranging from the casual to the most competitive. Yes, you heard it right. This seemingly simple game has a leaderboard that keeps track of who’s the best yakiniku expert out there – impressive!

But there’s a minor issue with said leaderboard; there were times when the game stuck on a loading animation during my playthrough. And the only to fix this is to reset the game, which will cost you your progress. Other than that, everything else ran just fine. Lastly, Yakiniku Simulation has a spot-on sound design; when you put a slice on the grill, you can hear the sizzling sound right away, and there’s this cute blowing-up when the piece is overcooked. However, there is one other thing you need to consider before buying this game. Honestly, if it’s for a quick game, I don’t really mind leaving it on, but I’d definitely turn it off during free mode. Imagine listening to someone else’s chewing sound for hours; that’s a hard pass for me. (yes, I kid you not, leaderboards in a game about grilling meat) Skilled players will find a great deal of reward in figuring out the optimal strategy for eating as much as possible without burning the meat.
