Farlands Video Game Seeking a lifestyle change, you saw an offer you couldn’t refuse: an entire planet going for a bargain price! An old agrarian rock in an outlying solar system that’s been lying abandoned for years. So, with little more than your worn-out ship and your personal assistance droid, you decide to embark on a new phase of your life in a lost corner of the galaxy. it’s a delightful homage to pixel art games, with gameplay mechanics reminiscent of Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing. You can really see these influences in the music, tool design. the way actions are performed. The game promises a total of 8 planets, and currently, 5 are developed. I’ve had the chance to explore two of them and meet the main NPCs, who are incredibly funny and entertaining. A fairly relaxing game, with several interesting things to do apart from your own space farm. The atmosphere in general is great, visually it is excellent with animations and music made with love.
The game is still incomplete, but that’s understandable as it’s in Early Access. The Roadmap published by the developers looks promising, so we’ll have to wait to see how everything is implemented. The game is a gem in the rough! It has a lot of potential and the space theme makes it different from other resource management games. Been quite a while waiting for this game, as some others chill exploring and farming games (like Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon) had already bored me after some many years playing… This is a new really refreshing point of view for all these kinds of games, being much cheaper and accessible than Animal Crossing (and also more interesting to me) and much more neat than Harvest Moon and its recent alternates. Also manages to somehow captivate me as much as Stardew Valley or even more as some mechanics as fishing are more relaxing and appealing to me, the space sci-fi topic is like the perfect counterpoint to the fantasy magic topic SV.
Farlands Direct Play:
Turn an old agrarian rock into a thriving homestead. A very well rounded game for an Early Access release! From its charismatic characters, beautiful pixel art (I truly love it, very expressive and pleasant to see) and interplanetary travel exploration, everything in this game is truly enjoyable. But one thing that I specially found attractive was its fluidity, or rather, its fast-paced sense of gameplay. While other Farming Sim games take a slow approach for gameplay mechanics. with each action realized in-game taking its time, Farlands takes away that and respects your time. See a Fish? Throw your fish rod, no minigame involved, just a quick-time event. Went to another planet and can’t reach your home in time? Use the bed inside your ship, your energy won’t be fully recovered, but at least you are getting some sleep (not like real life.. Although your ship has seen better days, it can still help you move between the different planets in the solar system, explore them, and collect resources to improve your farm, your tools, and your ship.
