A 2.5D casual platformer game where you play as an alien. You and your UFO buddies got stuck on Earth in 2067 and want to go home, but you’ll need cash for those spaceship parts. How do you earn the money? It is up to you Do taxi missions (bring passengers from A to B as soon as possible, while completing (optional) special requests for bonus Complete special side quests and help the citizens or the other aliens out (abduct bad guys, try to help a broken heart or solve a little mystery) Explore the levels and search for collectibles (health upgrade, max turbo upgrade, money)… who knows what else you will find… At the same time that the narrative is great, I do have misgivings about certain aspects to it and how it relates to gameplay. Half way into the story the dialogue and plot progression get a little redundant, almost like it needed something–anything–in terms of dialogue about the story in spite of zero progress towards uncovering the mysteries of SANABI during the ensuing dialogue.
The same questions and answers are repeated a few too many times. The gameplay during this segment is quite slow too–providing new mechanics but also restricting movement options and occasionally flashbanging the screen on top of it. The game does have combat, but if you’re expecting the improvisational dances of Katana Zero, you will have to look somewhere else. The combat philosophy is closer to something like Sonic’s where it’s more meant to complement the platforming and add to that sense of speed than to be its own independent system. When you judge it for what it’s actually trying to do, it’s pretty fun, zipping around levels and arenas trying to kill all the enemies while making it to the exit as fast as possible. Except for the boss fights, cause these… are real fights! If you want battles that test your skills with both hook and fist, then this is where you’ll get them. Each boss is a cinematic spectacle that will make you feel like a grapple ninja. The final two in particular are worth shouting out for how cool they are.

The big problem is the impact on pacing. You’ll be grappling around faster than the speed of sound, then you’ll cross a level-transition barrier and everything crashes to a screeching halt as a cutscene begins. The cutscenes themselves can be pretty fun, but sometimes they can take a while. The bigger problem in my opinion is the gaps between cutscenes. They’re too short, there’s not enough gameplay between them meaning that you never get to avoid that feeling of being shunted out of your groove. It’s the only noticeable flaw in an otherwise excellent game. Thank the story is one worth telling then! I can’t spoil anything, but despite what I mentioned in the previous paragraph, I still think it adds more to the game than it detracts. I simply suggest you have some patience during the beginning when the story is still taking its time to establish things.
