Sunset Hills is a hand-drawing novel-style narrative puzzle game about the travels of novelist Nico after his discharge from the army. As Nico travels by train to each city to visit his former comrades, the player encounters a variety of people and events and learns about life through solving puzzles along the way. As they reunite, they reminisce about their past experiences in the war, unravel the war and Nico’s past, and gradually reveal the true purpose of Nico’s journey. This game is super adorable and has a really cute and interesting story. The art style is truly beautiful and it was truly a joy to play and I am super excited to see where Nico’s story goes. But there are a two points of criticism I have of the game. You can’t adjust the subtitle size, color or anything, which can make it hard to read at times as the contrast isn’t always the best (but the instances where I couldn’t read the text well were super rare) There were a few times where I felt super stuck and had no real way of figuring out what to do.
It would be great to have had some kind of hint system or a way to reread recent conversation again. The quest names sometimes helped but a few times I felt like I was running around like a headless chicken. Very cute and pretty, it is sometimes a bit sad, the art is gorgeous and i havent had any issues so far, im a bit stupid on some puzzles but ive just used youtube if im having trouble, overall its a very good game The game offers an incredible story and an engaging experience that truly immerses you in its world. While there are occasional stutters in the movement mechanics, these minor issues don’t overshadow the overall quality of the gameplay. It’s a must-play for anyone who appreciates a well-crafted narrative in their games.
Sunset Hills Direct Play:
Very fun and cute game! Took me 5.5 hours to beat it on my first try, and I did not get every single achievement. The art and sound are amazing, and it’s such a heartfelt addition to the moomin family story. This is peak cosy gaming for me. I can see what people mean when they say it might get a bit one note since there aren’t much to speak about regarding mechanics. That has however never bothered me so running around in the beautiful surroundings, drumming at ferns and pull signs with boring rules from the ground. A big plus for me was that you can play it in Swedish, that’s what I’m used to. This game is very peaceful to play. I did go through and get all the achievements in the game. If you are the kind of person who enjoys more variety while playing something or want a more challenging game. You might not like this particular game. For me I found it over time kind of boring.
