According to the “TEXT”‘s words, people who reach the age of 35 will be the passenger, there’re too many people living in cities after all. Head to hell is a exploration game and also a walking simulator. You wake up on a train, and intetact with the strange “TEXT” around you. Observe and judge everything. There’re two doors in every carriage. You will make a choice. You will be making a lot of choices. The TEXT is guiding you to escape from this circle curse, Should you listen to he? There’re strange surroundings, little spooky atmosphere and a chatterbox on a moving train. The only way to understand everything is moving, but sometimes the text will disturb your thinking. (How dare he!!!) This was one of the more confusing anomaly like games imo. Wasn’t sure what to do after findin’ some differences at times. All that bein’ said, I still managed to finish the game. Train Traffic Manager.
The atmosphere was fine and I found the floatin’ Hell Company text to be welcomed amongst the creepy vibes. Solid for the price tag. I could go out and grind for the materials, but why bother when I’m breezing through the game anyway? There are no sidequests or anything meaningful to justify an outing, so I would just end up passing on a lot of these upgrades. I finished the entire story with out ever finding even a single piece of olympium, when making just one olympium door requires 6 of them. I really have no clue what the idea was here. Perhaps I was just very unlucky but it really felt like the effort required to get these upgrades was far beyond what anyone would want to do when the lower tier options work just fine.

I’d also like to mention the story, which was decent up until the quite disappointing ending, which is a textbook example of ending with a whimper instead of a bang. The final run is basically exactly as difficult as any other run, just capped off with a brief dialogue dump after which the game sends you back to base like usual and simply declares itself to be done. To sum things up, while the core of Pacific Drive is really good, the game as a whole falls short of being great. More enticing and creative upgrade options, greater challenge to encourage pursuing upgrades in general, and some better writing could have pushed it over the line. I hope the devs build off their successes here because there’s clearly a lot of potential for what they do next.
