“Know, oh prince, that in the years when Atlantis ruled the oceans, sins and arrogance unleashed fierce demons. When everything seemed lost, four heroes arrived to close the Gates of Abathor.” The Atlantean civilization has angered the gods. They have sent hordes of monsters to punish Atlantis by destroying the continent. Players must cooperate and compete to save Atlantis, going through a series of challenges of increasing difficulty. In their progress, our heroes will fight against ferocious demons and primordial gods, against the living and against the dead, against flying beasts and crawling horrors. They will dodge dangers and traps and descend into chilling abysses. But they will also compete against each other for the loot and the spoils, plundering treasures and offering them to the gods to receive their favor.
2D platformer with action roguelite influences and up to 4 players in local mode. Fight against an army of monsters through more than 50 stages of increasing difficulty and incredible final bosses. Enjoy elaborate pixel art and an epic soundtrack with over 40 tracks. Traverse the entire continent of Atlantis and delve into lore based on Plato’s writings and Athanasius’ map. Re-live the arcades of the 80s and 90s, with features of retro 16-bit games and the influence of the metroidvania and beat ‘em up genre. Abathor is a brilliant retro side scrolling action platformer, playing like every game I loved from the 80/90s. If any of what I’ve written resonates with you, chances are you will enjoy the game. Abathor Pre-Installed:
I’ll keep this short and sweet. The upgrades earned through breaking Orbs of Ananke feel like something out of Altered Beast. The game is an homage to arcade classics like Golden Axe and Rastan. You can pick from four different characters, each with unique skills and stats. The art direction is beautiful, and the combat will keep you hooked for many hours. The soundtrack truly shines while conveying an epic sense of adventure. I haven’t reached a boss battle yet, but the game does present a certain amount of challenge. This means it will require some commitment from you, but nothing that feels overwhelming. Some of the power-ups and weapons you’ll find throughout the game will help you beat each level. The demo was a breath of fresh air amid the countless roguelites and metroidvanias that every other indie studio seems to be developing nowadays. I can say, with confidence, that Abathor’s final release has been well worth the wait.
