“All Alone” is a single-player 3D first-person short horror game that is all about quiet terror. The player, as the amnesiac protagonist, explores the house in bizarre conditions without knowing anything about it. You will experience a sense of consuming dread through a series of unexplained phenomena and the house’s horrific past, which will become clearer the further you explore. When you overcome fear and recover all your memories, you will discover the spine-chilling truth behind this story. The game is inspired by Japanese horror games such as P.T. and is characterized by a quiet, slowly-eating sense of dread that does not rely on jumpscare. The house is dotted with diaries from the past, which reveal ‘certain events’ that took place in the house. Why did you wake up in a strange house, and who are you?When all the mysteries are connected, the gruesome truth will be revealed.
The game engine UnrealEngine 5, which is also used for film production, is used. Beautiful graphics and stereophonic sound enhance the immersion and sense of fear in the game. Honestly the game is super fun, what it lacks in visible appeal it makes up for in a plethora of in game mechanics, it’s not the prettiest game out there but it’s got a super high degree of replay-ability and lots of in game mechanics to learn. the quality is relatively consistent across the board and there isn’t anything egregiously out of place or not fun (Some puzzles or map objectives can veer in the realm of unsatisfying though). Would definitely have been improved to allow some more cross map monster/objective/puzzle types for further variety as certain monsters, puzzles, and objectives will only show up on certain maps.

One of my favorite games of all time. Very unique in its exploration and atmosphere, and the story is not really presented as a typical story is. I like to get every ending I can, so I played the game three times. It wasn’t until the third time I played the game where I feel like I picked the right dialogue and did things in the right order to understand the story and lore. It’s not like it was complicated, it was just given to me in an odd order or with vague dialogue. The last ending I got felt like the true ending, and I liked it a lot. I just wish that the other endings didn’t feel so boring. All in all, I’d say I recommend this for people who enjoyed the first game, but I also think that those people may well enjoy it less than the first game, so it’s difficult not to come away with a sense of disappointment.
