All Quiet in the Trenches Video Game is a narrative turn-based strategy RPG set in World War I. Get to know your soldiers, take care of their needs and lead them in battle, trying to strike a precarious balance between the ambitions of your superiors and the survival of your men. 1915, World War I, Western Front. As a German Unteroffizier, you are responsible for a group of soldiers. Whether they will survive the war is in your hands. Welcome to the trenches, Herr Unteroffizier! The game is great. Takes heavy inspiration from war movies like Saving Private Ryan, and the 2022 version of All Quiet on the Western Front. I understand the narrative is supposed to be about the comradery of war but i wish it was just a bit more dark, touching on the more depressing sides of the war like the death and rot of the trenches. Music should also be more intense when in combat. Can they process the horrors they have experienced and mourn the fallen? Also when suppressing enemy troops you should be able to wound or kill the other squads of enemy’s either being able to take the captive after they have lost enough troops or kill them entirely removing them from the battle.
Maybe you would get more prestige for the lieutenant if you killed the entire squad but it would have a toll bigger on your troops moral, I don’t know, just a suggestion. Also a machine gun emplacement for the enemy trenches would be cool, maybe the only way you could take out/suppress/destroy the gun would be with grenades, and if that didn’t work or you don’t have any grenades you would have to retreat and find another way around the machine gun to take it out with a flank or just avoid it entirely and find another way into the trench. Overall great game and can’t wait to see what changes come to it. Lots of times, soldiers under your command will be overworked, officer will push for more effort, sometimes even demand ridiculous task, only for your soldiers to be sent to battle at the top of their exhaustion. Every soldier is different and every soldier reacts to your decisions differently. Your rations will often be scarce and you may run out of ammunition in the midst of the battle.

Leadership will push for more ground gain, which often leaves you with a decision to do your task properly or focus on protecting your men. There’s not a lot of content as of now and needs a bit more polishing, but it’s understandable since it’s in early access, with lots of updates to come. Despite this, major game mechanics and atmosphere are perfectly encompassed, which would make me recommend this game. Your decisions between the needs of the soldiers and the demands of the superiors result in a unique story each time. But your choices don’t change the war. They change the life of your soldiers. Some of the mechanics take a bit to figure out how exactly they work, but a couple rough edges are expected for the first day of early access. I’d especially like to see more variety in the various tasks, and more clarity around the effects of decisions and how putting a different number of people on various tasks affects the outcome. But as I said, the core is here, very playable, and fun. If the atmosphere is to your liking, definitely check it out. The chaos of war threatens the physical and mental well-being of the soldiers.
