This game is such a fun casual rally experience and it just keeps pulling me back in, it’s chill and welcoming every time you start it. The inside jokes are hilarious and make it clear that this is a passion project being built with a lot of love. Handling in this game is easy yet realistic, the car behaves feels very believably and allows you to confidently throw it in no problem except for one reason: the clutch. As of now it only exists so you can clutch kick and while that is important to have as a tool, it still isn’t as useful as it could be if it was able to “relax” the car completely. I don’t know how to explain it well, but any time the car becomes twitchy and is about to swing out of control, by engaging the clutch it would remove all torque from the drivetrain and bring it back under control: in this game this isn’t possible. I know, a small thing but really frustrating and if implemented it would be such a quality-of-life fix.
Probably my favorite non-sim racing game out now. It has an enthusiast focus, so don’t expect art of rally to deliver typical basic arcade racing and “gamey” gimmicks features. It’s a “drivers’ game” through and through. The physics aren’t overbearingly realistic, but have enough realistic mechanics to feel natural and dynamic enough for a seasoned driver, a perfect match for the game’s overall caricaturization of rallying. Cars handle more simplistically than they do in real life or sims, but with variables like drivetrain type, road camber, and weight transfer still affecting the way you drive, being quick in-game means you have to understand the principles behind driving real cars fast. One wrong move and your stage is pretty much over- but that’s what makes the good runs rewarding. Historic liveries and humorous little blurbs for each car add to this game’s charm as a love letter not only to rallying, but to car culture as a whole. Doesn’t hurt that fresh content other devs would release as DLC is available to all players for free. Pair with a little Eurobeat and enjoy.
