Astro Colony Direct Download
Astro Colony is a game of automation and exploration in an infinite procedurally generated universe. It is composed of fully destructible voxel planets. Co-Op is busted but after joining the Discord, the devs are very active and pushed 3 updates in the 1st 3 hours of the game being released. This game has great potential and Co-Op is working just a bit buggy. It’s still an early access and needs work, but take the time and post on the Discord server, as the devs are actually active and be part of making it go faster! it has issues regarding multiplayer, but please remember, its in Early Access, so bugs are to be expected, and the developer is very active trying to get things sorted. The main game has a large tech tree, with colony elements added in, so a small twist on a well covered play style really makes this game its own.
My recommendation? If you’re fine with helping test, and make the game better, grab it now. If you’d rather wait and see, that’s fine. Astro colony will only get better over time, I’m sure of it! I’ve played 124 hours on 5 separate maps, playing both types of beavers. I’ve encountered zero bugs. The interface is clean and well-designed; it will always tell you what you need to construct, and then operate, a building. It doesn’t hide anything from you, which is great. The beavers are fun to watch (they sound a bit like Minions when you click on them), and reasonably efficient in their activities (although some appear to spend time moving things between warehouses, or moving water between containers, which seems pointless). I don’t normally like the blocky terrain design, but it works well here. I’m not a fan of having your map float in the middle of a void–it would be nice if there was some hint of land beyond it.
Astro Colony Pre-Installed:
Your goal is simply to make sure everyone’s needs are met, and then beyond that, to make everyone happy. I can’t think of a better, simpler, or more satisfying goal for a game like this to have. It really makes you wonder why other games in the genre would choose to focus on anything else. It actually feels like it was influenced more by Roller Coaster Tycoon than SimCity in that way and, honestly, in a lot of others too. But unlike either of those games there’s no money to manage, just resources like food, water, and building supplies. If there’s enough food then everyone eats. If there’s enough books then everyone eats books, as beavers (apparently) do. If that sounds really simple, that’s because it is! Sort of. It’s very intuitive but there’s still plenty of challenge in the form of droughts that make the rivers go dry and the land and crops follow. To deal with these, you do what beavers do and manage the flow of water with dams. The droughts get longer as the game goes on so you need to keep building an ever more resilient society to handle them.
