Backbone is a post-noir narrative adventure. Become raccoon private eye Howard Lotor and explore dystopian Vancouver inhabited by animals as you uncover a deeply personal story of change and transformation. Backbone is inspired by film noir, weird sci-fi, post-soviet aesthetics, modern political regimes, the works of Lynch and Kaufman, and existential philosophy of Sartre. It is a linear, cinematic narrative experience that subverts genre and challenges your perception of what it means to be a person. Backbone’s gameplay is focused on storytelling and emotional expression, featuring rich and elaborate dialogues inspired by old school CRPGs, as well as exploration of the lush environments. The end of all things is inevitable, but defining which version of Howard Lotor reaches the conclusion is up to you. Backbone’s Vancouver is a dangerous place, bleak and dreary, but not entirely without hope. It’s a tale of a cold and uncaring world, interspersed with genuine connections and a bruised but undying drive to make a difference. Everyone wants to change the world, but not always for the better.
The breathtaking combination of high-resolution pixel art and 3D effects like dynamic lighting, pouring rain, volumetric fog and neon lights bring the sprawling City to life. Visit iconic Vancouver locations like Gastown, Granville and Fairmont Hotel, reimagined in a world now inhabited by anthropomorphic animals. Original doom jazz soundtrack by Danshin and Arooj Aftab features an innovative combination of classic jazz and electronic music. Backbone’s OST is expertly crafted to create a cinematic, atmospheric, and simply jaw-dropping soundscape that serves and enhances storytelling. Look at the city, it’s stunningly beautiful. Going for a walk on the street is enjoyable, the city is alive. Warm and shimming lights through the windows, a man leans relaxing and smokes by the window, the posters and bookshelf inside the room can be seen. A string of clothes is right outside, the wall is missing a few bricks and covered by ivy. It’s night time so shops are closed, but many with glorious window showcases. The food truck reads grilled fish and has several hanged, The Club is opening with a line of people dressing popular waiting to get in – and if you look close, you can see it’s raining and a guy holds a newspaper above his head as a temporary umbrella, not to mention how good the light looks in the water reflection.

And this is not the only street you shall walk. Several places to be explored, my favorite would be that quiet town with a clock and the river outlook, peaceful and lovely. Streets look different but the common characteristic is all with rich content and into details, and rooms too. Kudos to the art developer. Just looking at the scenery, feeding pigeons or seeing cars and passersby come and go can make me happy. Apart from the art, Backbone has a great story to start with. Howard, a detective investigating private affairs then learnt it includes murderers, missing girls, drugs, collusion, corruption, ethical inventions… which he can’t turn an blind eye to and eventually takes actions. The story starts very interesting, with humorous and deep dialogues – relationship between parents and kid Great adventure game in the first half, then the ending hits like an unseen wrecking ball and crashes through all the great stuff that was built up. Worth playing, but wait for a sale to buy it.

- Thats all, enjoy the game! Make sure to run the game as administrator and if you get any missing dll errors, look for a file named All In One Runtimes.exe run this and install it.
