Sure, the systems were rough and the fishing kind of sucked, and sure, there were occasional lag and crashing issues, but nothing awful for early access. Then, suddenly, my save game was lost. 22 hours of playtime gone. I don’t know what caused it, but I am pretty sure I was near the end game, venturing into swarm lands and the like. Don’t buy in early access. Save yourself. Wait until these issues are resolved.

After my save file was lost, a community manager reached out to me to offer help with the issue, which is far more than I’ve come to expect from games I’ve bought through Steam in general. Given this, I’ve updated the review to positive, because even though a glitch seems to have caused me issues, this was far better than I expect from any dev, much less a relatively small developer. While my save was unrecoverable, they offered to build me a save, which is frankly going above and beyond! While this review started as a negative one, I now recommend this game in the strongest possible terms, for the fact that the creators of this game genuinely care, and have been extremely helpful. Using your grappling hook feels great, ship combat feels great, on-island combat feels great, the aesthetic of the game is beautiful, ship/equipment customization is intuitive and lets you play your way, and exploration is never boring.
