About The Game
Blood West is an immersive Wild West FPS where, as a revenant desperado, you take on the twisted demons and eldritch horrors, while you search for the means to end the curse that has befallen the frontier, and maybe find some peace for your wicked soul. After you die your soul moves on to where it suppose to. Heaven or hell. But if the body is denied its rest six feet under, the soul is doomed to stick around a little longer. The world’s gone mad, broken, and cursed, and the last thing worthy of faith and reverence is the double-barreled shotgun at your side. They say that dead men tell no tales? Well, I do have one hell of a story to tell you… One quest after another, the spirits of the land lead you towards even greater challenges. And whatever your path may be – things will get rough. For hell is empty and all the devils are here! In Blood West you will find:
Great atmosphere, cool level design and satisfying weapons. But the first trailer on the store page was kinda misleading in making you believe it would be a fast paced fps where you can go guns blazing. It is not, in fact it’s a more slow paced and stealth based kinda game where you have to be careful to not engage in massive fights. Going guns blazing will probably get you killed as the ennemies are quite tanky and ammunitions are scarse. At least in the beginning of the game, things spice up a bit once you progress and discover new areas. The game is difficult, it doesn’t hold your hand and it will give players a challenge. Blood West in this early access version have a pretty nice and well detailed map, the level design is good and provide many interconnected areas. It’s a non linear game so you are free to explore the map very early in the game, exploration is rewarded with some juicy loot so always good to check every corners.
During your expeditions you collect cursed items that you need to deliver to the totem of souls or trade with the shaman at your camp or others wandering traders in town. By doing so you will improve your stats, unlock new gear and progress the main story as expected. In Blood West there’s also a bit of immersive sim elements like the stats and inventory management, nothing too deep but it’s a welcome surprise. Personally I like games with inventory tetris but younger audience probably don’t lol. Gunplay and weapons are really satisfying, honestly it’s some of the best I’ve seen in recent memory in an indie fps. The ennemies are well designed as well, kinda reminiscent of creepy eldritch horror. Sound effects and ambient musics are good and the protagonist have cool voice lines which reminded me of Caleb from Blood ! Hyperstrange nailed the atmosphere with this game, stabbing a posessed miner and hear is lamenting scream echoing through the desert plains under the full moon is something quite satisfying.
