Bud Spencer and Terence Hill are back again! The new game is a sequel to the first game and just like a movie saga. The story picks up where it left off at the end of the first Slaps and Beans. Our heroes will experience adventures in new places with new events and will also meet many new characters along the way. Slaps and Beans 2 returns as a scrolling fighting game with a retro gaming, co-op or single player look with a platform mechanic that allows the player to control Bud Spencer and Terence Hill in a revised and improved version of the combat system. Brand new environment dynamics that progressively add enemies as the difficulty increases and of course again with lots of funny quotes. New mini-games that can be played repeatedly in a dedicated party play area for up to 4 players. And finally the dubbing in four languages that immerse the player even more in the real Bud Spencer and Terence Hill ambience.
On the darker side, it lacks of variety of sounds. The audio atmosphere could have definitely been better. The fights are also sometimes lacking of dynamism. Yes, the punches, especially from Bud were slow and heavy, but still. A bit faster in the game could have been appreciated. It is also a bit clunky at times. Pushing a box for example could be a bit hazardous. Anyway, if you like Bud and his pain in the neck of Terence, if you liked the previous opus that I believe a bit better, you should like this one. It won’t be the game of the year, neither the best beat’em up, but it is funny enough and may bring some nostalgia. Double hands smash with both thumbs up for me. Followed by one last hammer fist from above. There are so many things that I think this game does right; variety of characters, customizable story mode runs, special abilities, cool unlockables, and multiple endings.

There is a ton of variety when playing through story mode with you being able to pick from four characters right off the bat depending on your playstyle, and then you’re given the option to choose in what order you want to take on the gangs. This game is even better playing with a friend in local co-op. The feature to have two endings was super cool and made playing through the game multiple times an even better experience. For all achievements, you’ll have to beat the game a minimum of four times to see all four gang’s full missions (the last one you face being the full mission). The gameplay mechanics are killer and the bosses are super unique. And of course, the Double Dragon soundtrack is phenomenal.
