A very enjoyable roguelite arcade shooter, reminiscent of Binding of Isaac or Cult of the Lamb. The big draw of the game is the mechanic of weapon combinations, which allows for a truly staggering amount of varied playstyles and possibilities. There’s also a heavy emphasis on couch co-op, which suits the game really well, though the single player campaign is very enjoyable on its own. I also want to shout out the art style, which is both cute and funny at the same time; there’s something reminiscent of the classic Newgrounds games about it, which is absolutely a positive in my book.

Very refreshing to see a game that doesn’t default to faux-retro pixel art. For players who have played similar games before, I would probably encourage playing on the hard difficulty, as the middle-of-the-road one might not offer much of a challenge. For newbies wanting to broach the genre of twin stick shooters, Calcium Chaos is a great offering to get you started, without having to suffer the constant setbacks of Binding of Isaac, or the tedious micro-management of Cult of the Lamb. The game’s weapon system is a standout feature, allowing you to combine different weapon types to create some truly absurd and powerful combos.
