You will encounter legendary weapons, each endowed with a unique and potent power-up! Find scattered gold coins, they may just save your life! Also, your high score at the end will be determined by the gold coins you collect! Pay your way by giving the Reaper a bag of gold! Getting the bag of gold to the exit however, may often leave you scratching your head! Stay on your guard though! if you drop the bag of gold the Gnome will attempt to steal it within 20 seconds and return it to the chest! And best be warned: navigating with a bag of gold comes with restrictions—no attacking, jumping, or running! Good Luck!
The story is also great, though it is not very obviously told. Well, for the most part it is, but the lore is also incredibly important to the story and the lore can be very hidden. A major shame, because it is really damn good. Short, spoiler free summary: You, a little bug skeleton guy of unknown origins, arrive at the kingdom of Hallownest, which is described as “The last and only civilisation, the eternal Kingdom” by a big sign in front of the door. Collecting the different charms and making builds was pretty enjoyable, though it felt a tad limiting at times, but that’s not the fault of the game at all. I’m just used to roguelikes like Slay the Spire, where customisation is so expansive that some runs look like a different game altogether. The customisation in Hollow Knight is still really good and most, if not all, playstyles are represented here with enhancements for them.

The story and combat are great, but where the game shines is its artstyle and music. Every single room is a masterpiece. Walking around Hallownest for the first time was probably my favourite time exploring a new world, in my opinion on par with or even better than the new Zelda games on the switch. The variety in enemies, the different feels of the areas, they all contribute to a world that feels so alive. And the music is just incredible. Some tracks are great for being ambient tracks, but Greenpath and City of Tears for example are masterpieces that I would frame and hang on my wall if I could. An excellent and very crisp game with a haunting story for the player to interpret on their own.
