Chicken Invaders puts you at the forefront of a battle against invading intergalactic chickens, bent on revenge against the human race for our oppression of Earth chickens. In this episode, the chickens have hatched a devious plan to block out sunlight and freeze Earth to death. It’s up to you to travel around the galaxy in order to piece together an ancient artifact and (quite literally) save the day. As the last intergalactic chicken invaders flee our Solar System and lingering feathers still smolder in interplanetary space, I ease up on the trigger and wipe the sweat from my brow. My work here is done. Saving the world sure works up an appetite. I’m plotting a course for the nearest Space Burger. I think I’ll have the spicy chicken wings tonight. Or perhaps their galaxy-renowned chicken pie? Ah, the choices of a hero are never easy. Suddenly, I am yanked back to reality by the whine of my trusty spaceship’s automated warning system.
Why are all my dashboard lights flashing red? Why has the Earth darkened so? And why does it all have to happen just as I’m about to eat? The game has 3 difficulty settings. One of the few differences between the 3 is that the enemies become more bullet spongy than the previous difficulty. If it takes you one shot to kill an enemy on rookie, it will take you 3-4 to kill it in Superstar Hero. The second thing that changes is that on higher difficulties the enemies drop more keys (used for unlocking stuff), but that’s only because the enemies stay longer on the screen. You can get the same number of keys on lower difficulties if you don’t kill the enemies quickly. The third difference is that on higher difficulties you get more points. Points which are completely useless on Steam because you cannot use the official site’s leaderboards.

In short I recommend the game, but I recommend Chicken Invaders 4 more. Both games are great, but CI4 will remain my favorite. I grew up playing the other Chicken Invader games. Each one kept getting better and better, and this one is no different! New enemy types, new weapons, customize your ship, and we get to explore some planets in this one! I got 3 hours of fun out of this and I have yet to play the other two modes.
