Chain your powers together to become the ultimate living weapon. I’ve got great performance out of it, runs well at 144fps on my rig, looks beautiful. Great aesthetics. Feels polished, and slick, I really like the way it looks, and the controls are really snappy. The ship feels great to fly around, very responsive, enemy ships pop in a very satisfying manner, explosions look good. Like a much faster, crisper version of what freelancer did back in the day. I’d take this combat over freelancer’s put it that way. I really like the story elements too, the main character is great in a sort of ‘melodramatic dark scifi’ way. Really like the cutscenes. Great AA game, good price for a polished game, that looks and feels punchy. Took a punt on it and bought blind without reading anything about it, 100% don’t regret it.
But i will say, the experience shows off very well. The controls are extremely tight, even if personally i’d recommend a controller, not a HOTAS nor M/K. The ship feels wonderful to control and the game is a purebreed arcade space shooter in all the proper ways one should be. The combat is hectic and frenetic, it flows really well and the abilities you get along the way (like blinking in combat and other treats) elevate it much beyond space games where you end up ‘chasing’ your cursor to the top of your screen for the entire game. While the core of the combat is still using the rock paper scissors approach to weapons and defences, the encounters and missions manage to always feel fresh and throw things at you in ways that never really make any one combat the same as another. The environment also makes a large play, and will see you weaving and bobbing between space stations, asteroids and other enemies as you try to dodge, boost, newtonian-glide and all the things we love about the genre.
