Crawl Tactics Direct Download
Crawl Tactics is a unique hybrid of tactical RPG and roguelike. Manage a party of adventurers and use the environment to your advantage to conquer the dungeon. Turn-based tactical battles, pitting the team you built against groups of vicious enemies. Various skills and classes to customize your party. Deadly weapons and items. Enemies also become far too intense for early level classes, but there’s a very rewarding satisfaction in finally (getting to) build a team that can defeat seemingly insane enemy teams (wait until you meet a squad with 6-8 Guard or Warden type units, and then until you can just murder the heck out of them all). Some of the late game combos you can create are insanely fun and powerful, but the game remains challenging, and there’s likely going to be some serious frustration on the way there.
I find the battle maps incredibly annoying. Like the first game they’re cluttered, which is necessary for you not to immediately get overwhelmed by the superior numbers of better armed enemies, but now with height almost every map is a big giant block that can only be climbed from one side and a ton of “interactable” items that fire a one shot cannon or elemental effect. But it’s not fun, it’s all random and the maps are too crowded, you get exactly 5 squares to deploy your 5 member team, usually in a hallway alongside the giant block of high terrain.

A very cool game that does justice to both tactical rpgs and traditional roguelikes. There’s alot of strategic depth simmering beneath it’s surface, and it will force you to make painful fun decisions when it comes to your tactics, character builds, and dungeon routes. There’s an absurd number of classes and abilities, and a ton of customization with each. Quite a lot of build possibilities and party compositions packed into this game. It’ll kick your ass, then plague your brain until you boot it up again and stay up way too late exploring all of it’s intricacies.
