In unexplained circumstances, a dazed woman appears on a forest road, found by a random driver. As a police investigator, you take on the task of explaining this mysterious event. Who is this person and what was she doing there? Will the circumstances of this case be easy to explain or is there something deeper going on in the story? You get only three days to complete the investigation. Listen to witnesses, gather evidence, order searches and track suspects. Pay attention to every detail – the further fate of the characters depends on you. Criminal Expert is a detective video game that puts you under the pressure of inexorably passing time. The story contains multiple selection paths, and you ultimately decide how it ends. I really liked this game. I went to film school back in the day and editing was one of my favorite skills. This game brought back some of that feeling, though no real editing is involved.
TIP: The beginning was a little rocky for me until I figured out the controls. The best way to navigate the clips and unlock the hidden scenes is to use the left arrow (x 2) to slow reverse footage until you see the hint that more is available then use the spacebar to pause the scene. Then hold shift+left arrow (x 2) to unlock the hidden scene. Also, when trying to unlock new clips with the search function, use the arrow keys (any direction) to see what’s available on the paused image There isn’t much to be said about the game’s aesthetics; the game looks good in its own unique style and has graphics that are somewhere between realistic and retro. As I said before, the animations on the VHS tapes look fantastic, particularly with the CRT effect that was applied.
Criminal Expert Direct Play:
One of the game’s appealing features is that it includes voice acting. Both Amanda and Wooly were given voice actors who were a great match for their characters, and it is very easy to pick up on all of the feelings that are conveyed via their voices. Also, kudos for the real-life footage; you won’t find these easily, but they are worth the extra hassle. Instead, you’ll view footage from three different movies and some other random clips, scrubbing them for links to other clips and the hidden scenes within them. There’s the story on the surface and one beneath the shadows of the camera’s eye.
