Cry of Fear is a psychological single-player and co-op horror game set in a deserted town filled with horrific creatures and nightmarish delusions. You play as a young man desperately searching for answers in the cold Scandinavian night, finding his way through the city as he slowly descends into madness. With a strong emphasis on cinematic experience, immersion and lateral thinking, players will be taken on a nightmare rollercoaster-ride through the grim streets of Fäversholm and beyond. Not everything is as it seems… This really discourages resource management and it can sometimes put you in a bad or impossible situation if you don’t keep it in mind (hence it would have been better if it was removed all together and ammo drops were balanced accordingy.
Cry of Fear originally started out as a Half-Life 1 modification, set in the same vein as the classic survival horror games of old. 4 years in the making and picking up several modding awards on the way, it is now a free, standalone game for anyone to enjoy. Beware though, it’s not for the faint of heart. The limited inventory “management” is disjointed from how the rest of the game feels and no item box didn’t jive with me. You end up throwing your guns on the ground, and most of the time you will hit a checkpoint where they will disappear or you wont be able to go back.
Cry of Fear Pre-Installed:
The game is really janky though, being a mod of half life 1 original, its understandable, and it being free even makes it acceptable, but it needs to be mentioned none the less. You can and will get stuck on edges constantly. In the case that you were looking for a backrooms game about liminal spaces then this is not what you found here. As of the time I am writing this review, every level is made by hand and not infinitely gernerated.
