About The Game
Play as The Cursed Golfer, trapped in Golf Purgatory after a freak accident takes you out as you’re about to take the winning shot of an international tournament! Legend says that playing through the devious courses across Golf Purgatory will get you back to the land of the living and, more importantly, to the trophy you were about to win. Each course is governed by a ghostly Legendary Caddie, who will tutor you in the mystical ways of golf to aid you on your quest for redemption and revival. Being cursed to play golf forever in the eternity of Golf Purgatory has its benefits, too! Use Birdie-Eye to catch a view of the whole course and see what trials lie ahead. Par count running low? Luckily, gold and silver Shot Idols are peppered throughout the holes, smashing through them with a cinematic flourish will replenish your shots. Ace Cards will turn the odds back in your favour, channeling your otherworldly powers to manipulate the game in incredible ways. Scattershot, U-Turn, Rocketball, Mulligans are just some of 20+ cards you have up your sleeve to turn the tide back in your favour!
Cursed to Golf is a action adventure golflike game that has some roguelike elements in it. You travel through 18 holes in golf purgatory to reach ascension after your character dies by getting struck by lightning. You meet other golfers stuck in golf purgatory through the run and each of them act as a boss level towards the end where you have to get to the hole before them on a long course. The game has over 70 courses all with different hazards and shortcuts to help keep the golfing as fresh as ever. On the courses you can use Ace Cards that positively effect your shot, or add extra shots to your par meter. The game has 20 or so ace cards total. The par meter starts at 5 for each hole and if it goes down to 0 the run is over and you have to start back at the beginning. After each hole you gain money that can be spent in a shop to buy ace cards and outside of shops you can also collect ace cards between holes. Golf themed precision platformer that is really well executed. All of the Holes are handcrafted with lots of decisions to make on the fly. The order you encounter them in are randomized for lots of replay ability. Power ups are useful and varied just like the locales and obstacles you will have to face.

One of the standout features next to the gameplay has to be the gorgeous sprite work and the absolute banger of a soundtrack. Cursed to golf is a roguelike golf game. What this means is that it uses golf mechanics to get you around all sorts of hazards while having a limited amount of shots; once you run out, you will have to start over! Now while this may sound dauting, it makes the a lot more challenging and thus more rewarding. Game play aside, this game has a wonderful presentation, both the visuals, the music and the writing just ooze charm. I highly recommend this game for offering such a refreshing take on this genre. It’s like one of those old browser mini-golf game that’s extremely flashy and polished, and hopped up on caffeine. Game looks and sounds so damn good, pixel art is top notch! So bouncy and full of life. Had my eye on it for awhile, and while I do wish it had more roguelike elements (perhaps different club effects), everything that is here is enough to satisfy me and urge me to learn and get good at the game. A good game to add to your collection, especially if it’s on sale. Though one thing I’d say they missed the mark on is not including PvP multiplayer. This game feels like it was made to play with your friends, and I’m high key sad it’s not here.
