Distant Sun is a singleplayer, story-rich, sci-fi game based on character dialogue, puzzle solving, the choices you make and the impact of its results. Set in the late 2100s, there’s not much space in space. Under the backdrop of rising tension between the nations of Earth, Pioneer Research has embarked on the noble task of figuring out how to expand humanity throughout the cosmos but something odd happened there. What happened in Pioneer Station? Puzzle together and save the lives of those that remain and uncover a conspiracy on a solar scale. Sift through corporate emails, hack administration rights, and talk with research personnel to unravel the mysteries, but do mind that the saying “ignorance is bliss” applies. Choose your story The decisions you make advance the story in unique ways. Whether through dialogue with other characters, avoiding confrontation, or outsmarting your adversaries, this will effect the ending of the game.
Dialogue tree The dialogue tree guides player conversations and is an essential part of the story. Talk with NPCs and discover more about what happened in Pioneer Station and the conspiracies that lies beneath. Companions You do not have to go in alone. Your crewmates Wonglei and Hailey will be there to back you up with firepower and advice. Character creator Customize your character’s appearance with the game’s in depth character editor. Some challenges can be particularly annoying because you won’t be able to complete them without the appropriate spell at hand, but the game isn’t going to tell you what spell that might be — so after exhausting your arsenal you have no choice but to leave it alone and find something else you can do. Fortunately most of this stuff can be ignored if you don’t care for it, but you’ll still be made to sit through lots of tutorials for it as the main story rolls along.

The combat is quite dynamic and gives you a lot of room to experiment with different spells and combinations. When it all comes together you can feel like an unstoppable powerhouse as you zip through groups of enemies, immobilizing them left and right while redirecting attacks back to them, but the variety in both enemies and attacks is limited and bosses tend to be little more than health sponges that shrug off most spells, In my 23 hours of playtime, I completed the main story and most of the side missions. Based on the in game % counter, I have completed almost 90% of the side missions and locked up a good handful of super villains. While I may go back and complete a few of the side missions related to characters, I do not think I will bother completing the generic missions about taking out groups of enemies and clearing towers as those are not very fun. Outside of those missions, the side quests and main story were well written, interesting, and fun. I also think I have some standalone DLC to complete, which I will look into shortly.
