Players can be affected by a variety of STATUS EFFECTS: jump restriction, inability to attack… all of which will pose an extra challenge and spice up the gameplay. The game’s controls are pretty clunky. There are huge delays for performing the airdash and for using the shield spell, and the player will stop firing their weapon if changing weapons while the fire button is still held down. All of this makes for a pretty clunky experience. Enchanted Portals is a very rough round the edges 2D shooter/platformer, that has pretty terrible run n’ gun levels, but is saved by it’s mostly great and varied boss battles. An overhaul to the game’s controls, and less random run n’ gun levels could drastically improve this game. I’m giving it a recommendation as I do feel the game’s bosses are worth checking out, and I enjoyed how varied and creative they were. There is room for improvement here, which I can only hope will come in the form of patches.
Enchanted Portals Pre-Installed:
It is for a very specific target group, namely go-getters. The smallest mistakes can be punished harshly and this can be very discouraging. However, for players who don’t give up after a few failures, the gameplay is excellent. The experience was as expected, visual details would have been on par with PS3, but considering the Steam Deck, it was an amazing experience. Controls were adapted to DualSense features for the Deck Controls, but Xbox Controls weren’t terrible either in Docked Mode. I always enjoyed 3D platformers since I was a kid, and although I do own a PS5, because I had never played Ratchet and Clank when this game was released I was definitely interested in general because of how polished it looked but without any rush. I was interested in the many technologies they used to achieve the end result, especially because of Insomniac and their mastery of ray-tracing 60fps which I thoroughly enjoyed in Spiderman Miles Morales.
