Souls-lite, Not Souls-like: Flintlock doesn’t shy away from its Souls-like inspirations, but it carves out its own identity. Combat involves locking onto foes, dodging, blocking, and unleashing axe attacks. However, there’s a Bloodborne-like twist: you wield a firearm that interrupts enemy attacks, adding an extra layer of strategy. Gunplay and Melee: Ammo replenishes after melee strikes, sparing us the tedium of realistic flintlock reloading.
Step into the boots of Nor Vanek, an elite member of the Coalition army, joined by Enki, a mysterious fox-like companion, in their quest for vengeance against the Gods. Guided by Enki who shares his knowledge of the world with you, your combat skills and traversal capabilities will be imbued with his magical powers making you a duo to be reckoned with. The blunderbuss, in particular, delivers satisfying blasts that send enemies sprawling. Graphics and Environment: Visual Splendor: Flintlock boasts impressive graphics. Environments are beautifully rendered, immersing you in a world teetering between life and death. The attention to detail is commendable. Flintlock retains elements of the souls-like genre and infuses it with rapid mobility resulting in dynamic and explosive combat. Weave in melee, gunpowder and magic in rhythmic battles where combos chain together to create a deadly dance.

Traverse the ravaged landscape of Kian, utilizing Enki’s magic and portals to soar through the skies while confronting hordes of the undead. Discover new equipment, strengthen your weapons, and upgrade your gear in anticipation of the ultimate showdown against the Gods. There’s been plenty of uniquely different weapon types & means for upgrading equipment that makes the experience more diverse than a spam-the-attack-button simulator. The relationship between black powder (ammunition), your melee attacks, & disrupting enemy attacks, is a beautiful mechanical design that tickles me in a similar way to how card games do, & I love card games. Dodging can feel a bit inconsistent in its effectiveness, but overall is not too problematic. My only other notable mention in regards to combat would be that melee attacks feel very heavy, & as such, they are very difficult to cancel out of quickly without certain weapons that attack faster or certain upgrades.
