It should be no surprise then that A Difficult Game About Climbing aims to subvert this in a manner similar to another beloved indie gem that many will know what I’m referring to without even needing to speak it’s name but, for the uninitiated, this particular indie by Pontypants tasks us to guide a naked man, only clothed by a simple loincloth, from the bottom depths of the watery sea all the way to the peak of what one can construe to be a disfigured mountain range of the sorts.

Right off the bat the graphics are distinct in that the aesthetics behind all of these seemingly random props and landscapes seen in the distance are an intentional choice by the developer to give a form of ‘surrealism’ to your adventure upwards whilst giving each area a notable feeling as, although I can’t claim to be an expert where creative artistic designs are concerned, it does help to make each area feel unique and fun to explore, even when you consider the harsh reality that this is going to be a VERY hard hike to climb all the way through! it is a mechanic that I wish was made easier to pull off, although perhaps this is part of the ‘skill’ element of this indie that must be learned to truly master it, hence why the sixth area is designed in such a way that it practically forces you to learn it properly so that it can prepare you for the insanity of the final seventh area.
