You’re taking care of your friend’s house while they’re away. You need to keep everything tidy and water the plants, but a clay garden gnome suddenly appears. Things get a little unusual after that. I thought the game was pretty good for the price. It is a bit more involved than I figured it would be. The later half of the game was a bit of a drag to me tho as we weren’t in the house and had to do a lot of walkin’ into orbs. Besides that I still recommend it. The graphics are top notch and really compliment the art style. There’s a kind of vintage, almost steampunky vibe to the game which works well and adds to the horror atmosphere. It feels like a game designed by artists.
I really don’t like this since a lot of the tools you buy and bring in cannot be used until you’ve guessed the ghost. This core design is just bad and makes each round feel almost exactly the same. Progression wise you can buy customization stuff for your character and safe houses, as well as more gear. The gear is quite expensive and feels like too much of a risk to bring most of the time. You don’t need very many things to even do all of the objectives in the game. While I think Phasmo has the better gameplay as it currently stands, Demonologist shows some insane potential with a very competent dev team behind it.
Gnome Direct Play:
I enjoy playing Demonologist from time to time, but it’s not a game I can grind due to design choices. The game is still in early access and still very new, but with a solid foundation the gameplay will improve quickly. The community itself is not very friendly, 10/8 lobbies will kick you out for no reason, so it is highly recommended to start the game with a friend, otherwise you will feel quite uncomfortable. There are a ton of unique events (visual and audio scares) in each map that will take you by surprise, but they are triggered too frequently and you’ll get used to them Secondary objectives also cannot be completed until everyone has locked in a ghost type.
